Celebration, Qarn-al-Alam 2018
The main focus of this celebration was a thanksgiving for the safe return of a tribeswoman after medical treatment for rheumatoid arthritis in the US (at John's Hopkins Hospital) and the welcoming of a patron. The recitation heard on the video and repeated several times was a qasidah, an 'ode' - an ancient Arabic form of poetry still in use today. Whatever the length of the poem, it maintains a single end rhyme that runs throughout the entire piece. This qasidah was written to pay tribute to Nour al-Douha, the anthropologist who had worked with the tribe for over 40 years.
