Camel Racing

Camel herds have long been the core of Bedouin culture. Its milk, hair and meat once basic to survival. Contemporary camel racing as a sport and leisure activity is gaining prominence. The large prizes for winning races - sometimes in excess of $150,000 + has given rise to ‘camel drugging’. A recent crackdown in Oman on the use of performance enhancing drugs has brought the sport back to where it should be – an even playing field for camel contestants.
